The Association

The Association of Basque Composers of the Basque Country, formerly registered as the Cultural Association for the Promotion of the Basque Composition (ACVEME), was established on 21 September 1997.

At the time of the establishment of this institution, the main objectives were, on the one hand, to promote and enhance the music written by the Basque composers of the association and the Basque music of all ages, with special attention to contemporary music. On the other hand, filling the gap that was perceived in the field of professional organizations working for the recognition of cultural values, focusing in this case on the field of creation.

Nowadays, the Composers Association carries out a number of activities that respond directly to the objectives for which it was created, including the Contemporary Music Circuit Musikagileak, the International Quartet Composition Competition "Pablo Sorozabal" (in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa), the Professional Meeting "Musi-Meet", the Contemporary Music Composition Course, etc.

Today, the Association has 132 members, mainly Basque composers, but also performers and groups, all very committed to the main objectives of the organization.
